Powder Painting Facebook Group

Interested in powder face painting? I also run a Facebook group focused on powder face painting for artists who want to learn more about this soft, beautiful technique.

It can be a great option for clients looking for a more hypoallergenic experience, and many painters especially love it during hot, humid summer events. Inside the group, you’ll find tips, techniques, inspiration, and helpful advice from artists who are learning and growing together.

Painting with Powders: Quick Color, Big Impact

You can use:

  • Regular face painting sponges

  • Lollipop sponges

  • Makeup brushes

All of these work beautifully depending on your style and the design.

Enhancing Your Designs

Powder painting is perfect for soft blends and bold color transitions. To elevate your work even more, I recommend keeping a shimmer or mica powder on hand. Adding a light layer of shimmer over your design really makes the colors pop. A bright eyeshadow palette with shimmer and glitter tones is also a great tool to incorporate.

Why I Love Powder Painting

  • Great option for guests with paint sensitivities or allergies.

  • Extremely fast—perfect for long lines and busy events.

  • Holds up well in heat and humidity.

  • Won’t melt like traditional paints.

  • Performs well even with sweat.

  • This is my go-to technique for summer events and outdoor bookings

Tips for Longevity

If you want your designs to last as long as possible:

  • Apply a silicone-based pore primer first (any brand works—I personally use Ulta)

  • Apply your powder design

  • Finish with a setting spray

For line work in high heat, heavy sweat, or water exposure (like pool parties), you can use use water resistant paints or even waterproof eyeliner (in a pinch, as it is a lot trickier to accomplish line work with). It makes a huge difference on those unexpectedly hot event days!

Powder painting is all about speed, efficiency, and adapting to the environment—and honestly, it’s just really fun. I especially love using it for pattern-based designs.

Powder painting is one of my favorite techniques to use, especially for outdoor and high-volume events. It’s a fast, heat-resistant alternative to traditional face painting that uses water-activated “Starblend” powders instead of cream-based paints.

How It Works

To apply powder correctly, always dampen your sponge first—then load the powder. Avoid spraying or wetting the cake directly, as that can affect consistency and pickup.

Our Most Popular Powder Painting Designs

All color and stencil work was done using Starblends applied with damp sponges or kabuki brushes. Line work was done with water activated or water-resistant paints or on occasion, colored waterproof eyeliner.
